These are some of the smocked pieces on my Artomatic wall.

Artomatic-install-040-smockThe red and white piece was one was one of my early projects. When I first learned smocking I got a lot of stitching practice by making Christmas tree ornaments. I was experimenting with smocking on printed fabric, which can be hit or miss. This fabric is white with white snowflakes. I like it, but sadly it never became an ornament. The multi-color smocking on the red fabric is another experiment. I used a traditional stitch, but I zig-zagged instead of making even peaks. I like the results, so it will probably show up in a future item.

One thing I tried early on with smocking was pleating ribbon. I wanted to create something that was not your traditional smocking, as in kid’s clothing or nightgowns. I made a choker with single-face satin ribbon that I still wear to this day. The final two photos are chokers and bracelets using satin and grosgrain ribbon. Keep an eye out for these … I hope to have them on Etsy soon.
